Your last 7th grade reading novel will be "My Brother Sam is Dead," by James Lincoln Collier. This is a story told by Tim Meeker, an adolescent boy and the younger of two sons in a loyalist family. It takes place during the course of the Revolutionary War.

Prior to beginning our reading, you will build your prior knowledge of this time period in history with an introductory research project. After that, you will be creating a STUDENT NOTEBOOK where you will build your own novel notebook portfolio.

This notebook will help you keep track of things like setting, plot, characters, vocabulary, and theme. It will also include numerous exploratory activities, a graded research project, a colonial newspaper write-up, and a Dramatic Reading assessment. There will be vocabulary, comprehension and note taking. Finally, there will be "quests" along the way as well.
