Junior High Social Studies Extra Credit Opportunities(optional)

Watching the news—NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, etc.—in the morning or evening. Special news shows like 60 Minutes, 20/20, etc. also count. National Public Radio (NPR, 90.3 FM) counts.(1 point per hour)

History Channel, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel shows that pertain to what we are studying count. (1 point per hour)

Historical or geographic movies that are highly rated count. (1 point per hour)

Reading sections A and B of the newspaper counts. (1 point per hour)

 

Extra reading of biographies, historical fiction, etc. about topics we are studying count. (10 points)

 

Seventh grade only—ethnic dining—preparing meals at home that are based on recipes from countries we are studying(10) or going out to eat at ethnic restaurants.(5) (one country, one time)

Eighth grade only—visiting local sites of historical interest (e.g. Lakeview Cemetery, Lawnfield, historical societies, etc.). (10)

You may earn up to 30 points per quarter. The points will be added to individual low scores, not the total average. An "F" test grade will be raised no higher than a 77% (C-). Extra credit will also help you if you are on the brink of a higher grade. Averages will never go up more than a half step (e.g. D+ to C-).

Keep an ongoing record sheet. Before the report card, have your parent sign it to verify your total. Turn in the sheet and then start a new one.
