Seventh Grade

Gesu School has over  100 networked computers and a total of 4 laptops. These are all able to be connected to the Internet.  Within the past year each classroom has received a new Dell computer in addition to the computer already there.  Many classrooms now have their own printer too.   We are diligently trying to increase the number of classroom computers to continually enhance the integration of technology into all curricular areas.  All of the computers run on a Windows operating system. In addition to the computers, we have numerous software programs, color printers, laser printers, scanners, digital cameras and live daily broadcasting equipment.

The Gerald J. Breen Family Media Labs are located on the 2nd floor of the school.   The large lab holds 31 computers and it is the place where students work weekly to incorporate technology into their curriculum. The smaller lab holds 16 computers and is typically used for group assignments, special technical activities and multimedia presentations. Both students and faculty of Gesu will be busy in the Gerald J. Breen Family Media Labs again this year.  Virtual field trips are planned. The Stock Market Club will begin again in the fall  and students will learn to research, buy and sell their stocks online. They will use spreadsheets and graphs to track the progress of each team’s portfolio. The primary grades will learn the function and tools of computing. They will practice math, spelling, and reading using software programs and Internet sites. Internet research skills will be a focus for the elementary age students. The fourth and fifth graders will also start keyboarding. Publishing, PowerPoint presentations, Visual Mapping and Web Developing will begin in Junior High. These are a just a few of the major ways that children will learn using technology at Gesu!

In addition to student learning, the faculty will continue to attend technology in-services to help them learn more about FrontPage, PowerPoint, Digitizing in the Digital Age, Publisher, Computer Maintenance, Kidspiration/Inspiration, and Internet use! These "break away" sessions provide the teachers with the skills they need to incorporate technology into their curriculum.

In the classroom, students use the computer to execute projects, access information, create multimedia programs, reinforce concepts, and communicate with people around the globe.   Our vision is to have students use the computer as a vehicle that will connect them to experts outside the classroom walls.

We do more at Gesu with technology than just present lessons and develop staff. We have a computerized administrative offices and library. Our teachers and staff use technology to monitor attendance and this year we will be tracking grades electronically. We use e-mail to communicate with each other and parents. Technology literacy increases every day!
