Communication Class

Gesu 5th grade students  spend 12 hours each year in this enrichment class which emphasizes the skills of listening, verbal and symbolic language, and written and technical forms of communication.  Grants from the Gesu P.T.O., the McGinty Family Foundation,  and the Ohio SchoolNet Telecommunity for audiovisual equipment enable students to learn how to use many forms of media.  Grade 5 students have the option to join the G E S U News Crew in second semester.

Students prepare for a trip to the Western Reserve Historical Society where they do a genealogy study which ties in with their study of immigration in Social Studies and English classes.  Each homeroom also prepares a dramatic presentation for other grade levels.

While enhancing oral communication skills, the students prepare a simulated news broadcast with a variety of segments based on  their interests.  The Communications Class meets for an hour in the ZOOM Room on Wednesday mornings.
