Grade Four Language Arts Curriculum Maps

Students in Grade Four have a daily Reading
class and a daily English that is taught by one of the three homeroom teachers.
Language Arts skills are embedded in the special theme units that are an
important part of the 4th grade's integrated Language Arts program. In
addition, students meet weekly to discuss Literature books. Accelerated
Reading, an independent reading supplement, is another facet to compliment our
Language Arts Program. Language Arts skills are also woven carefully into all areas of the curriculum
as students continue to develop research skills in the content area subjects.
Students have a weekly Study Skills
class with Mrs. Jean Ann Sexton which incorporates writing and speaking
skills into the students' work during each class period.
Every student also
meets with Mrs. Maria Bolanz once a week for Spanish class.
The curriculum maps for Reading and English
overlap to include the writing, speaking and listening that is done in both
subjects. The work done in
Spelling class is covered on the curriculum map for English.
