Spotlight Discovery Summer Science Camp
Each summer, during the second week of June, Gesu Catholic School hosts a one week science day camp for students who have completed grades K-5. Campers are encouraged to use their curiosity, creativity, and investigative problem-solving skills to study science and invention through experimentation and stimulating activities.
Certified teachers use an inquiry-based approach in each of the five daily classes. Campers explore their own “smarts” in a child-centered environment while participating in curricula based on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theory. Throughout the week, they will have opportunities to use their logical/mathematical, naturalistic, visual/spatial, musical/rhythmic, verbal/linguistic, bodily/kinesthetic and interpersonal intelligences. The camp theme for each year is based on a broad scientific principle and the activities for each day become investigations designed to focus on each of the key areas of intelligence.
Camp groups consist of 12-16 campers of similar ages under the care of the camp director, teachers and counselors. In addition to their classes, campers will have morning and afternoon breaks, lunch, and a special group activity at the end of the day! Campers have the chance to take risks, get messy, make mistakes, laugh and learn throughout the day with old and new friends!
The camp operates from 8:15 AM-3:00 PM daily. Child care is available before and after camp.
Registration for camp begins in December. For more information contact Ms. Mascha at (216) 932-0620 or mmascha@gesu.com.
