Physical Education

The objective of the physical education program is to develop the knowledge, skills, and values related to motor skills and movement principles, health-related fitness, sportsmanship and personal responsibility, lifetime sports and leisure activities.

Through instruction in the Physical Education curriculum, students will:

  1. Make choices related to fitness based on the value of life and human dignity, and reverence for self and others.
  2. Value personal and group mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
  3. Understand the fundamentals of movement by practicing and analyzing purposeful movement.
  4. Develop and refine motor skills in a wide variety of fundamental and sport related situations.
  5. Integrate movement principles and strategies in a variety of situations calling for efficient and effective movement.
  6. Promote physical fitness for the purpose of enhancing the quality of life.
  7. Foster acceptance of physical abilities and limitations of self and others.
  8. Increase lifetime and leisure sports’ abilities through movement activities.
  9. Develop appropriate social behaviors and responsibility by working independently and with others during planned activity.
  10. Develop respect for each other’s diversified skills, good sportsmanship, and team playing and grow in confidence both individually and as members of groups.
  11. Adhere to safety procedures.
  12. Recognize that “life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God and that we must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good.”
