The Arts

Destination Imagination
DI is a long-term problem-solving experience that stresses teamwork and creativity. Teams of seven students work with parent/team managers to prepare for local performances at Gesu in early March each year and then regional competitions held later in that month.  Multiple talents and teamwork are developed and applied in this unique opportunity for Gesu students.  This activity is open to students in grades K-8.

 Global Issues Problem Solving Competition
This activity involves teams of 5th, 6th, and 7th graders that meet on Mondays from 2:45 p.m.-4:15 p.m. for eight months.  They employ the six steps of problem solving to  write sets of solutions for significant challenges of the future.    Their work is assessed and scored by trained evaluators. Three teams qualified to participate at the State Bowl in Spring 10.

Liturgical Choir Club
Students in grades 5-8 who enjoy singing and performing are invited to join this club.  Weekly meetings are held on Tuesday nights in the Gesu Choir Room.  Under the direction of Mr. Mark Ehrbar, and assisted by Mrs. Mary-Jo Widmann and Mrs. Colleen Pokorny, students prepare for performances for the school and also the parish community.

Power of the Pen
Each year junior high students with a flair for writing  prepare for a creative writing competition which is held on district, regional and state wide levels.  Students advance throughout the competition by writing on a variety of genres and topics.
